I love the Doctor Who journal that I bought on vacation in Virginia back in May, every bit as much as I’m enjoying the new season and the new Doctor.
Thumbs up, Peter Capaldi!
I’m a die-hard, longtime Whovian thanks to my youngest brother, who introduced me to the 4th Doctor (Tom Baker) back in the 80s, and Jon Pertwee (the 3rd Doctor), who I met at my very first Sci-Fi convention of any kind, also back in the 80s, at Oglethorpe University.
The memories are still vivid, as if they happened yesterday.
Going up steps into a massive show trailer and coming face to face with all the different versions of real Daleks from the show in beautiful glass cases (if even one of them had moved, I’d have starting running)… Standing in line with my little son for Mr. Pertwee’s autograph, and a red Dalek coming through and breaking in line (some fool fan had gotten inside a display Dalek inside the convention and hijacked it! WTH?)… Mr. Pertwee eyeballing the Pepsi can in my hand and saying with a concerned smile, “That stuff will kill you.” 🙂
Since then, I’ve gone backwards and forwards across the Who time continuum and gotten my fill of all 11 Doctors.
I enjoy the show alone now, since we lost my baby brother to his lymphoma six years ago (Barry was a huge Davros and Tom Baker fan; I love Davros episodes, but the Cybermen and the Weeping Angels are my thing). After watching the first two episodes of the new season, I’m pretty doggone sure that he would like the 12th Doctor just as much as I do.
(BTW, Happy Labor Day, all!)
