One-Liner Wednesday — You’ve already taught me to be a great man.

GrandmamaStephe1Two years ago, this was how I found out I was going to be a grandmother for the first time. My Mother’s Day card from my 29-year-old son and his fiancée spilled the beans from the get-go.

I had lost my mother to multiple cancers only four months prior, so the news was a wonderful gift and right on time. 🙂

A month after the news, though, I was quaking in my boots and I mean terrified. I didn’t know how to be a grandmother! There was no manual, and I didn’t have my mom to show me the ropes. How the hell was I going to make the right decisions and do the right things? I remember saying, “I… I can’t do this.”

When I got this message from my son on my birthday, it made all the difference in the world (I was a single parent). It still does today. ♥

“I’m so excited you’re going to be a grandmother. I know you’re going to be the best one yet because you have already taught me to be a great man. Whether it’s a boy or girl, I know you will spoil them and teach them everything I fail to. I love you so much, and Happy Birthday!”

— JT

JT was right. It’s like riding a bike — all of that mom stuff comes right back to you when you need it, in addition to the memories of watching my mother with JT. There is nothing to be afraid of. (After my grandson gets into his teens, ask me again and see if I’m talking the same smack. Heh.) And speaking of my little butter bean, he’s 2 years old today. ♥

We don’t need no stinkin’ manuals!
